A Heavy Load Kids' talk in church 25th September, 2016

Kids carry heavy loads in their backpacks when they go to school. Hard work on a hot day!

This one is even heavier, for it is weighed down with heavier things than books, lunch boxes, pencil cases and the odd toy.

There is the very heavy weight of SADness. We are all sad at times, and it is horrible.

There is the very heavy weight of WORRY. Will others like me and let me play with them? Will a bully pick on me? Will I be able to do my homework? Will my family get sick?

There is the very heavy weight of SIN. We all do wrong things, and if we are wise we know they will keep us from real happiness, forever with God. Sin keeps us away from our Heavenly Father.

Matthew 11:28-30 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

"If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light."

11.29 yoke: Yokes were put on the necks of animals, so that they could pull a plow or wagon. A yoke was a symbol of obedience and hard work.

What a sad story this would be if there was nothing more!

But there is more - JESUS, God's Son, the long-promised Rescuer-King, has come. He came to take our heavy load, and to carry it on His own back. In return He gives us a very LIGHT load to carry. All that is in it is trusting ourselves to Him, loving Him, and following Him. Of course, following him means doing what He says, and we can find that in the Bible.

He says "My burden is light." and He never lies.
