Genesis 4:23 and 24 (ESV) Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me. If Cain's revenge is sevenfold, then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold."
Cain was the first baby born and grew up to be a bad man who murdered his younger brother. His great-great-great grandson, Lamech, was worse.
The Bible does not tell us exactly what happened, but it might have been like this:
Cain's great-great-great grandson was the first To boast of killing men. He had two wives, and told them both That he'd do it again. His son was first to make sharp tools Of bronze and shiny steel. Maybe he made the very sword With which his father killed."
How much we all need Someone to rescue us from sin! Let us thank God that He sent Jesus to do just that.
